Scroll is developing a ZK-rollup that is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Their proof system supports direct verification of Ethereum blocks through a single, concise proof. This means Ethereum transactions finalize faster and cost less gas.
How does their ZK-Rollup work?
The concept involves verifying the accuracy and completeness of each operation code in the EVM execution trace. Therefore, first-layer smart contracts can be easily transferred to Scroll. They will not adopt new ZK specific features, but will take a different approach and support native EVM through customized optimizations. This gives them a significant advantage as they work seamlessly with all existing Ethereum systems without any modifications.
Second-level certification outsourcing
Scroll also aims to streamline the aggregation process by establishing and standardizing the outsourcing of Layer 2 proofs. They created a powerful outsourced system that incentivizes rollers to produce zero-knowledge proofs for them. They will standardize this approach to accommodate a wider range of off-chain computing. This will create a new proof market.
Another benefit for developers is that they can deploy complex contracts on Scroll without having to worry about gas limits. This opens up many new possibilities for off-chain applications with on-chain proofs.
Scroll proves the key points of the system
Based on the above two points, Scroll is a layered zero-knowledge proof system. The first layer will utilize customized circuit optimization and hardware-friendly proof algorithms to optimize proof efficiency. The second layer will be optimized for validator efficiency, with concise proof and verification algorithms compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
This proves that the system has the potential to support larger programs than EVM and provide additional features such as privacy, beyond the functionality of existing solutions.

As of now, their team has at least 20 experts in zero-knowledge cryptography and blockchain technology decentralized systems around the world.
Scroll doesn’t have a token yet. According to their roadmap posted on Discord, they mentioned that they are creating an incentive mechanism to encourage participation in the network. They also have a Scroll Marks system that rewards participation and participation in the Scroll ecosystem. This is a strong indication that the token is about to be launched and airdrop rewards will be offered to early users.
Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to get a potential Scroll token airdrop
- Add Scroll Alpha testnet to MetaMask
Go to the Scroll Alpha testnet portal and add the L1 and L2 configurations to your wallet.
Added Scroll Alpha testnet to Metamask – network configuration details are here. If you have previously added a Pre-Alpha testnet network, you need to delete it from MetaMask before continuing. Then, reset the MetaMask of Scroll L2.
- Receive Goerli ETH from Goerli Faucet
If you have not added the Goerli network to your MetaMask, you can add it through ChainList.
Now you will need Goerli ETH in your wallet. Request them at any Goerli faucet such as Alchemy or Goerli PoW.
- Bridge Goerli ETH to Scroll L2
Use Scroll Bridge to transfer testnet ETH tokens from the Goerli testnet to the Scroll Alpha testnet. The transaction takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
You can view your offers on Scroll Rollup Explorer.
- Hashimaki L2 to Gurley
On the Scroll Alpha testnet network, you can also do the opposite of step 3, i.e. bridge your testnet ETH tokens to the Goerli testnet.
- Send ETH to another wallet using MetaMask
Use Metamask to send ETH from one wallet to another on the Scroll network.
- Interact with the Scroll ecosystem
Scroll has a vast project ecosystem. Interacting with them produces on-chain evidence that can help you qualify for potential airdrops. Some examples include Aave, Syncswap, Izumi Finance and Symbiosis (see below). Below is a list of Scroll ecosystem projects.
- Using scrolling alpha on Aave
Connect your wallet to Aave, then click the settings button in the upper right corner and enable testnet mode. Then, click the down arrow on the left and select “Scroll Alpha” for the Aave testnet market. Finally, offer and borrow some tokens such as ETH, DAI, USDC, and USDT.
- Using the Scroll Alpha network on SyncSwap
Connect your wallet to SyncSwap and select the Scroll Alpha network in the upper right corner. Click “Faucet” and “Receive Now” to obtain testnet tokens. Note that you will need ETH to pay for gas. Execute some swaps on the Trading tab, add liquidity to some pools and remove some liquidity on the Pools tab.
SyncSwap may also be doing its own $SYNC token airdrop! Learn more here!
- Interact with Quan Finance
Connect your wallet to Izumi Finance. On the “Exchange” tab, you can exchange between tokens such as ETH, USDT, WETH, USDC, and IZI. Then, go to the “Pro” tab to access their exchange. On the exchange, place some limit orders. Finally, click on “Liquidity” and add liquidity.
- Use Symbiosis to execute swaps and add liquidity
Exchange on the Symbiosis exchange. Liquidity can also be added to its liquidity pool. Remember to only do this with rolling tokens! You can tell which markers are scroll markers because they have the 📜 emoji on them.
- Get the scroll guild character
Go to the Scroll Guild page. Connect your wallet, Discord and Twitter accounts. Complete tasks to get guild characters.
- Collection Scroll Origin NFT
Scroll Origins is an NFT mint launched by Scroll to celebrate its earliest builders. To be eligible, you must deploy your smart contract to Scroll Mainnet within 60 days of October 10, 2023 at 6:00 AM GMT. You will then be eligible to receive 1 of 3 NFTs based on deployment date (before November 9th and 24th and December 9th, 2023 respectively). If you deploy early, your NFT ranking will be better! Starting December 15, 2023, the Scroll Origins NFT can be claimed on the Scroll website.
To deploy a smart contract to the Scroll mainnet and qualify for the Scroll Origins NFT, you must first bridge funds from the Ethereum mainnet to the Scroll mainnet here (this is the gas fee when deploying the smart contract). Then, create your own token by going here and selecting the “ERC-20” tab. Choose a name and ticker for your token. Under Capabilities, select Mintable, and then in Access Control, select Can Have. Then, click “Open in Remix” in the upper right corner. In the new window, click Solidity Compiler (the two arrow buttons on the left sidebar) and look for a green checkmark next to it. Then, click the blue “Compile Contract” button and the “Deploy and Execute Transaction” button (this is the Ethereum logo button with an arrow). Under Environment, click the drop-down menu and select Injected Provider-MetaMask. Your MetaMask wallet will then pop up, log in and make sure you are on the Scroll mainnet. Return to the webpage, paste your wallet address next to the “Deploy” button, and click it. Confirm the transaction when prompted by MetaMask.
To check if you have deployed your smart contract correctly, visit https://scroll.io/developer-nft/check-eligibility and check if you are eligible to receive an NFT. If you are eligible, we will let you know and ask you to come back on December 15, 2023 to claim it.
Based on the smart contract deployment date, you are expected to obtain the following 3 Scroll Origin NFTs: (1) Quintic: before November 9th; (2) Quad: before November 24th; (3) Cubic: before December 9th.
- Attend Scroll’s 0th event
To participate and qualify for Scroll Session Zero, use LayerZero to bridge $ETH or $wstETH to Scroll via Scroll’s native bridge or STONE bridge. Scroll Marks can be obtained by holding designated assets on Scroll. Those who spend more than $5 in Gas on Scroll between October 10, 2023 and April 29, 2024 at 12:00 UTC will also be eligible to receive Scroll Marks.
- Attend Scroll’s first event
In the first phase of rolling, participants can obtain rolling tokens by depositing assets into a specific DEX liquidity pool. Currently, depositing into an ETH/USDC pool using the Scroll network on Ambient Finance and depositing into a pool on Nuri will qualify you to earn Scroll Marks. Other eligible protocols in Scroll’s first phase include Izumi Finance, Syncswap, Oku Trade, Unisswap and Zebra. With tighter rangers or greater market depth, you’ll get more liquid deposit roll marks. Scroll recommends that you can obtain Scroll Marks faster, for example, by selecting LP positions that are more focused on actual prices. Additionally, LP positions with higher volatility (e.g. ETH-USDC) will accumulate rolling marks faster than low/no volatility positions (e.g. USDC/USDT).
Airdrop comments
When reviewing airdrops, there are several factors to consider. First, there is the possibility that the project will even be airdropped first. Then, look at how many tokens the project intends to allocate to the airdrop campaign, and how difficult it is to participate in the airdrop. It’s also important to look at the utility of the token so that participating in the airdrop has an actual use and purpose. Finally, one of the factors to consider when reviewing airdrops is whether there is a lock-up period for the airdropped tokens.
Possibility of airdrop: Scroll hinted that they will create an “incentive network” to encourage Scroll participation. The mainnet launch is confirmed to be in August 2023, so the airdrop will most likely be around then!
Airdrop token distribution: Scroll has not yet provided any information about its token.
Airdrop difficulty: Scroll has yet to announce details about its airdrop. However, they are currently in pre-testing, so it may be worth interacting with the testnet to qualify for any potential airdrops.
Token Utility: Scroll has not yet provided any information about its token.
Token lockup: Scroll has not yet provided any information about its token.
